The
Brand
Junior Adventures Group (JAG) is the UK’s leading provider of before, during, and after-school activity clubs and holiday clubs, with over 30 years of experience building brighter futures for children. Operating across 160+ locations nationwide, JAG serves thousands of children daily through their comprehensive Adventure Programme and Holiday HQ camps.
JAG’s mission centres on developing the “whole of child” through three key pillars: Inclusion & Participation, Creativity & Learning, and Wellbeing & Happiness. Their professionally trained, DBS-checked staff deliver world-class experiences that help children develop essential social, emotional, and interpersonal skills for the future.
The
Brief
Following the successful delivery of our Kids Activator Course for JAG in previous years, Kidztivity was approached to support their comprehensive summer training initiative for Holiday HQ summer camps. After a detailed discovery call, we agreed to deliver seven intensive 6-hour training workshops across multiple months leading up to the school summer holidays.
Kidztivity was tasked with bringing JAG’s proprietary activity cards to life through practical delivery, covering games, activities, and arts & crafts while ensuring seamless integration with JAG’s theoretical training components including Health & Safety, SEND support, Safeguarding, and daily camp operations.
The
Challenge
The primary challenge involved mastering JAG’s extensive activity card system and developing innovative approaches to bring these resources to life in practical settings. With limited time allocated across seven 1-day workshops, effective time management was crucial to ensure both new and returning staff gained confidence in setup, delivery, and equipment usage.
Additionally, Kidztivity needed to accommodate diverse learning styles across multiple staff members from various JAG sites, while ensuring smooth integration with JAG’s own theoretical training modules covering essential operational aspects of summer camp delivery.
The
Approach
Kidztivity developed bespoke session plans tailored to accommodate the mixed ages, abilities, and experience levels of JAG staff attending from various locations.
Our structured approach included:
Training Methodology:
- Hands-on Practical Sessions: Direct engagement with activities, games, and arts & crafts
- Interactive Learning: Encouraging questions and addressing uncertainties in real-time
- Group Discussions: Building confidence and facilitating idea-sharing among team members
- Engagement Checks: Regular questioning to maintain focus and reinforce learning
Time-Optimized Delivery:
Each workshop provided comprehensive “taster” experiences of activities staff would deliver throughout the summer, ensuring maximum exposure within the 6-hour timeframe.
The
results
The support we provided delivered exceptional outcomes, preparing JAG’s diverse workforce for successful Holiday HQ delivery across their extensive network. Staff gained practical confidence in activity setup and delivery, mastered the versatile use of JAG’s activity card system, and developed strong collaborative relationships with colleagues from different sites.
The training’s success directly contributed to JAG’s continued reputation as the UK’s premier children’s activity provider, supporting their mission to build brighter futures for children across 160+ locations while maintaining their high standards of safety, inclusion, and fun-focused learning.
