CHILDREN’S ACTIVITY 28: MAKE A MUD PIE
Most kids love getting messy and whilst we might have to deal with the consequences like dirty footprints, mucky hands and muddy clothes, but for the sake of some fun, it’s definitely worth it.
Why not join in yourself?! A mud pie needs mud, so this should be done in the garden. Get your children to be creative with their ingredients. Does the mud pie need a sprinkling of leaves? A dash of water? Decorative twigs on top? How big can you make the mud pie? Can you make it look like a real cake? Have fun and let go… your children will lead the way!
CHILDREN’S ACTIVITY 29: BUILD A NEST OUT OF GRASS AND TWIGS
Building a nest out of grass and twigs can be a fun and educational activity for both parents and children.
To start, find an open area with plenty of grass and small twigs. Begin by gathering a handful of grass and forming it into a small circle on the ground. Next, weave small twigs around the grass circle, building up the walls of the nest as you go. As you build, encourage your child to gather more grass and twigs and help with the weaving. This will not only teach them about the process of building a nest but also help improve their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination!
CHILDREN’S ACTIVITY 30: MAKE A MINI GARDEN
Making a mini garden with your child is extremely rewarding, both for you, your child and all the plants that will grow inside it!
You can start by getting a small pot or container, some potting soil, and a few seeds or seedlings of your choice. Let your child help you fill the pot with soil, plant the seeds or seedlings, and water them. As the plants grow, talk to your child about the different parts of the plant, such as the roots, stem, leaves, and flowers, and how they work together to help the plant grow. You can also teach them about the different things that plants need to grow, such as sunlight, water, and nutrients from the soil. This activity not only teaches your child about the science of plants, but also gives them a sense of responsibility and ownership as they help care for the garden. They will also have the satisfaction of seeing their hard work pay off as the plants grow and bloom. To make it more fun, you can even turn the mini garden into a themed garden, such as a pizza garden with herbs and vegetables used in pizza toppings, or a butterfly garden with plants that attract butterflies.
